What is the CILS B1 Citizenship Exam? 

The CILS B1 Citizenship is the official certificate issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena, certifying your knowledge of Italian at the B1 level of the CEFR.

What is the purpose of the CILS B1? 

This exam is specifically designed to meet the requirements of Italian citizenship law. It assesses your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, ensuring comprehensive preparation.

How is the CILS B1 exam structured?

The exam consists of four parts:

  1. Comprehension of an audio listening
  2. Reading and comprehension of a written text and knowledge of grammar
  3. Writing a text
  4. Oral interview

To pass, you need to score at least 7 points in each section, with a total of 28 points.

IMPORTANT: To obtain the B1 Citizenship certification, you must pass all sections. If you fail even one, you must retake the entire exam.

How to register for the exam?

When will the exam results be available? 

Approximately 40 days after the exam, you can check the results on the University for Foreigners of Siena website and print a temporary certificate for your citizenship application. The official certificate is available after 90 days.
